2012 Fall Workshop

We are happy to announce our Fall 2012 CS4HS Workshop for High School Teachers in Virginia. We will host a workshop in our Northern Virginia facilities starting with a social gathering on Friday October 26th evening and an all day event on Saturday October 27th.

The goal of the workshop is

This year, we hope to create a series of assignments or examples that all teachers could use in their classes. Each example will include learning objectives, a brief reading in preparation for the activity, some coding activity, slides for the teacher to use in their lecture, and one or two assignment for the students.

The teachers and VT Faculty will work together to create assignments. We will ask you, the teachers, to provide us with sample exercises and problems that you use in your classes. These must be provided as part of your registration. Based on the material collected, we will create problems and assignments to discuss on Saturday morning. The goal for Saturday is to create materials that teachers can use in their classes. We will incorporate new ideas, like the use of Media Computation, the use of automated testing, or Android development into the assignments as a way to add new material to your existing content. The goal for the end of the day, is a collection of material that you can take home and use in your courses.

We will explore how to make the material available to other teachers after the workshop. We expect the materials to include teacher-only information (solutions to assignments, etc.) thus we need to explore how to make this available in a way that is appropriate without publishing the answers to the problems, without giving away the solutions to the students.
